Access Family Health Services

History

A charter was granted to Three Rivers Are Health Services, Inc. (TRAHSI) on September 6, 1978 by the State of Mississippi. Three Rivers Area Health Services, Inc. originally began in Houlka, MS with Ann Lamb as Executive Director, Janelle Patterson and Lynda Sunderland as Administrative Assistants. Following de-funding, TRAHSI was moved to Smithville with Earnest Chism as Executive Director. Mr. Chism served as Executive Director until February 1995. The name was changed from Three Rivers Area Health Services to ACCESS Family Health Services in February of 1996.

The first clinic, Houlka Medical Clinic, opened originally with John Winter as the physician.  After Dr. Winter moved, Dr. Andy Myrick was hired on a contractual basis until the clinic was temporarily de-funded.  The Houlka Clinic reopened in February 1982, with Dr. peter Wisniewski as the physician.  Dr. Andy Reese replaced Dr. Wisniewski in August 1996.  Dr. Jaime Ungo served as stagg physician from August 1998 to November 2002 and Dr. Allan Lee served as staff physician From August 2003 until August 2006.  The current staff of the Houlka Clininc includes:

Smithville Medical Clinic

Smithville Medical Clinic originally opened in the old Town Hall building in 1983.  Dr. James Monroe came to the clinic in January of 1983 as a National Health Service Corp Scholar and has provided continuous service since that time.  In 1989, the present facility was constructed through a grant from Hill-Burton.  The current staff of Smithville Medical Clinic includes:

MEDICAL CLINIC STAFF

Mental Health services were added in January 2005 in response to a VA Initiative to expand mental health services to veterans.  Mental Health Services are provided both in individual sessions, group sessions and through tele-mental health sessions.

The Tremont Medical Clinic originally opened with Dr. David Gorby as the physician.  Dr. Gorby left the Tremont are upon completion of his National Health Service Corp obligation.  Dr. Gary Carr served as provider and was temporarily de-funded.  The clinic re-opened in March of 1993 with contractual service provided by Dr. Michael Howell.  Carolyn Bond, FNP was hired full-time in July 1996 and was replaced by Sally Lawson in July 1997.  Dr. Geraldine Tan served as staff physician from June 1999 to July 2003.  She was followed by Dr. William Brohawn, Dr. Roy Thomas and Dr. Mayfield over the next three years. The clinic opened in November 1989 with Dr. Thomas Carroll, Jr. as the dentist.  He was followed by Dr. Edwin Dawkins, Dr. John Helton, and Dr. Hope Younger.  Dr. Vivian Draper has been at ACCESS Family Dental Clinic since September 2001.  A new 2,400 square foot facility with five dental operatories was occupied in November 2005.
